I'm a sucker for apothecaries and hurricane vases because there are so versatile! Fill em up with different things as the seasons change and on you go.
I had seen some apothecaries over at Dollar Store Crafts. See theirs HERE.
I bought all my supplies, by driving 45 mins to the states bc I wasn't having any luck here! Dollar Tree is amazing. You lucky Americans.
We have a rockin' Dollarama, but they didn't have the stuff I needed.
Before I got going, I saw this post by Two Twenty One and laughed because we were both on the same crafting track this week.
I LOVE her use of split peas as a vase filler! LOVE!! Check it out.
She was inspired by this post over at My Blessed Life.
It's really just a domino effect of copy cat crafts.
love it.
love it.
But hey, we all do crafts for ourselves, and blog to inspire.
So please...COPY CAT this!
Here's my tutorial.
Because mine are just slightly different from the rest.
My supplies:
3 vases, 2 tall candlesticks, 2 short ones
The Steps:
Remove stickers.
I don't know WHY stores put stickers on glass that leave goop. When you don't have Goo Gone, go to another source...I tried orange. It worked to a degree, still scraped away for a good 15 mins!
The glue!
I used Amazing Goop's Craft Goop.
Worked great.
Apply it to the candlesticks.
To get different heights, I stacked one candlestick holder on top of another
(on this one below)
Place vase on top.
dry dry dry....
Fill with pretty things.
I went with some mini faux pairs.
But then I got bored with them, so I pulled out some dollar store flower fakeys, and yanked off the heads and threw 'em on top. Worked!
Squeal!!! I love them.
Here's the financial breakdown:
3 Vases from Dollar Tree = $3
4 Candlesticks (2 were in a 2pk) from Dollar Tree= $3
2pks of pears from Dollarama = $2
Flower heads from Dollar Tree = $1
TOTAL $9 for three filled hurricane vases!!
It really doesn't get much cheaper than this friends.
Don't forget...enter the giveaway...
Check out my LINK PARTIES tab to see where I'll be partying it up this week :)

Cute!!! Great job doing it yourself. I've yet to jump on the "glue a candle stick to it" bandwagon, but these might be just the place to start!
looks great-i'm at a stand still with my jars. now that the pinecones are removed, what shall i fill them with??
These are great....vegetable oil removes sticky residue pretty well, try it!
I never thought to stack two candlesticks together to make a different height! I might have to add another hurrican to the two I made. Thanks for sharing! :)
I made these a few months ago and now that I see this post...I think I'll make more. I love how fresh and pretty they look!
I love the purple flowers with the green! I am having a giveaway, I would love for you to join in on the fun! http://keepinglifefunwithonecraftatatime.blogspot.com/2011/03/first-blog-giveaway.html
They look awesome! Great idea putting two candlesticks together! I love the pears and flowers!
Another thing that works to get stickers off is WD-40 or plain old soap, warm water, and a sponge.
Absolutely gorgeous! What a cheap, affordable alternative!

I love how you grouped the three of them together. It just works and makes them look a little classier than just one or two. I made some dollarama ones last year, but they're not glued. Shh!!
What a great color combo. The fakey flowers make quite the difference! And an AMAZING deal at that.
These are fantastic! I'm new to your blog (came here from Savvy Southern Style) and am a BIG, BIG fan! Thanks for sharing.
Those turned out great! I might have to make some of those soon. :)

Thank you, thank you. You put me in gear. Would you believe I've had empty hurricanes on my mantel for a month? Now I'm starting to see possibilities. Sometimes it takes another blogger to get you off dead center.
Great job with the photos, too!
so pretty! I just love hurricanes like this! thanks for linking up to our blog party.

This is such a smart idea- looks fabulous! I love the bright pink and green colour combo! I always like finding fellow Canadian bloggers!
Love the DIY hurricanes, really love what's inside! The green and pink are great together and really give a fresh summery feeling. Aren't we all ready for some warm weather?!

I love these! I am going to add this to my to-do list! So cute and cheap! :)
These are totally fabulous. It is amazing that people spend so much money when you can make them for so much less. Thanks for the great tutorial.
I LOVE!!! that you made the third one. They say that you are supposed to decorate in grouping of odd #'s and your hurricanes together look awesome!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Visiting from Domestically-Speaking :)
The colors got my attention and I had to click! The green and pink is stunning, just stunning! Excellent tutorial, thank you for sharing! I am now going to spend more time on your blog bc I see on your sidebar some pretty adorable children and let's face it--I'm a sucker for babies!
Have a wonderful week!
Thank for the inspiration. I used this trick to get the stickers off where I place all the vase in hot water for less than five minutes and then the stickers comes off nice and clean. Hope this will help you for the next project.
