My parents house has so much character. Even as a "newer" home.
Funny, as I thought of it all being "too fancy" when I was younger, and now crave that same character in my home.
You know those little wood craft pieces you find at hardware & craft stores?
My parents used them going up the staircase. It's such a minor detail that gives huge overall effect.
Recognize the staircase?
It's from THIS post.
Which happens to be THE most popular post on this here blog.
So when we had a problem in our home from the front door missing the baseboard doorstop, I decided instead of patching it up (again) we would try one of these decorative wood pieces as well!
ahhh...fixed.

I tried to leave you a message on Facebook, but just to be sure - let's go ahead and extend your BirdsPapaya discount for the month of December too!
Have a great day!
Those are just some beautiful little touches. I think you're right. It's character. I love the damage control you did. It's perfect.
Cool idea. I love all the frames on the walls of your stairway. I love decorating with pictures.
Hi Sarah, I love the embellishments on the staircase and what a clever idea to hide the dent in the wall with another one. Thanks so much for sharing and Happy New Year. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

Hey there Sarah! Stumbling upon your blog just gave me the idea of what to get from home furniture australia. I have the same problem on my wall and I didn't realize that fixing it up with an embellishment is the easiest and coolest way to get it sorted.
I like the idea of putting carpet on your staircase. Not only is it creative, but it would also reduce the chances of you slipping. Just purchased circle rugs yesterday and now I'm thinking what I can do with it. Any ideas?
