Quick, Easy & under $5 Fall Craft!

I love signs.
I love to make them because they're easy, and I love to hang them because they're cute.
You may remember THIS one that I did a while back, well...it was time to make a fall one. Now that's it's officially fall, I can do more of this and not just be the loony putting out fall decor in the summer.

I started with a plain wood sign with a chain for hanging from the dollarstore for $2
(ack! I can't stand when dollar stores have items for over $1!)

Anyways, I removed the chain pressed a piece of scrapbook paper around in the inner edge so I'd know where to cut.
Then I painted the outside perimeter of the wood.
Next, I mod-podged the paper down into the inner part of the wood design and let it dry.
Once dry, I used a foam stamp to do a pumpkin (but you could do it by hand for sure!) and hot glued on some flower heads.
Lastly, I added some scrap fabric for hanging, and that's it! done!

Kids can help too!

Breakdown of Cost:
Wood Sign $2
Flower Heads $1
Scrapbook Paper $.20
Paint $1
Mod-podge & scrap fabric on hand - free
Grand total of $4.20!

Antique Mirror into Chic Chalkboard

Those who have been readers for a while....
recognize this?

This is how it started....

Back in MAY I asked you all, what to do with this (my $5 garage sale find)

It was an antique mirror, formerly from a dresser set, and the silver on the mirror was diminishing and was very foggy. I knew I would revamp it, but couldn't make up my mind as to HOW.

I had 3 options in mind:

OPTION A - Leave it as it, appreciate it's character
OPTION B - Paint the frame
OPTION C - Paint the frame AND paint the mirror into a chalkboard.

But then you all chimed in and gave some great NEW options to think about like:
-mod-podge the frame with scrap-paper
-do an acid effect like Vintage Revivals did on The Nate Show.
-Remove the mirror and put in sheet metal (for a magnet board)

So I thought about it all.
For nearly 6 months.

Actually, I was neglecting it out of FEAR.
Yes, FEAR.
Fear that I would mess it up and lose my great find.

But then I decided that sitting in storage was messing up my great find anyways.

So I went with my gut, and SPRAY PAINTED THE FRAME (in Krylon Ivory- Satin) and then SPRAY PAINTED CHALKBOARD PAINT (in Valspar - Chalkboard).
I also distressed the frame slightly.

Now, after I did the chalkboard paint...it LOOKED like it had been spray painted, uneven and blotchy. But the glorious thing about a chalkboard, is in order for it to work properly, you have to go over the entire thing with chalk to prep the surface. After I did that...it gave the PERFECT chalkboard look. Maybe a *little* flawed, but as good as good gets for a $5 can of chalkboard paint!

I added these galvanized tins and greenery leaves (both from the dollar store) and these cute little shelves that were gifted to me by a friend who no longer needed them in her daughter's bedroom (thanks Jen!)

You may be wondering what's up with the Bushel and a Peck?

It's been in my head all week.
And it's cute.

Fall Mantle Reveal (plus Saltbox House Review & giveaway reminder!)

I told you all the other day when I announced the Saltbox House giveaway that I had ordered a Saltbox House sign for my Fall Mantle.

Well today you get to see what I've been working on...

Good news is, the Saltbox House painted sign (Friends & Family Gather Here) is the only NEW item. The rest was all in my fall storage decor, or pulled from other areas of the house.
The chalkboard pennant was a project you can see HERE.

I ADORE my Saltbox House sign. It's the perfect color of yellow to suit the fall tones & my space.

I even implemented my DIY Hurricanes from a while back!

Here's a sideview of the sign, to show it's not a flimsy piece of MDF. This is a thick lovely knotty wood! PAINTED, not vinyl...and be-a-u-tiful!

If you want to win a sign for yourself

Sponsor Spotlight: Clarendon Lane

Here's ironic for you.

My newest sponsor, is my FAVORITE blog
(Really, I'm not kidding one bit.)
clarendon lane
I go to Clarendon Lane often because it's like the ultimate look-through for inspiration for me. Katie's style is bang-on and I love her furniture re-do's and design tips.

I literally read and re-read the same posts over and over. I'm a little crazy, but I get just so much out of Clarendon Lane.

This blog has a sophisticated simplicity that just oozes beauty. Katie should have been scouted by Pottery Barn a long time ago.

Let me just take you through a bit of her blog, so you too can be inspired, and I would HOPE go over and click "follow". You will NOT regret it.

KATIE
(Katie of Clarendon Lane)

I don't want to spoil the rest for you, so go NOW and follow this talented girl and her beautiful blog.

Harvest Pillow

I cannot say enough about FALL.
I love it. I love it all.
The colors, the crisp cool weather, the soups & the decor.
ALL of it.

Since my porch was all summery still, I decided to "fall-it-up" with a new pillow for my adirondack chair.

This was a freebie project as I had everything on hand (LOVE these kind).

Project Ingredients:
- Black Fabric Paint
- Foam Brush
- Canvas Drop Cloth
- Pillow Stuffing (I just buy generic pillows at wal-mart and cut them open, use their fluff!)
- Foam stamp - flower (you can find these at craft & dollar stores)
- Letter Stencils (or use good ol' paper cut outs if you want, or freezer paper)

First up, I sewed my pillow, leaving a small section of the bottom open for stuffing.
Then I did all the stenciling and stamping (using light amounts of the fabric paint so it wouldn't be so sharp looking in the letters & flowers)
Stuffed it
Sewed up that bottom opening.
DONE.
Total time - approx 20 minutes

Jemma likes to invade my photo shoots...but that's OK because she's cute.

Next up to be "fall-i-fied"...the MANTLE!
OOOH..it's looking good. Can't wait to show you guys!
