Pizza Dough Cinnamon Buns

My Mom makes THE most incredible cinnamon buns.
I have the dough recipe, and it rocks.

But on the days that I don't have the...
(pick one)
then my Mom taught me to use a simple simple solution...pre-made pizza dough!

Now, making cinnamon buns may be all too obvious for some, but I'm someone who thrives on a full photo step by step (even for the simple things) so I hope they benefit some.

All you need for this is recipe is:
approx. 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
Pre-Made Pizza Dough (found typically frozen in your bakers section for a couple bucks)

Drizzle & coat your pan in melted butter and do a light coat of cinnamon & sugar. Set aside. Flour your surface and roll out your dough into a large rectangle about 1/4" thick. Brush on melted butter onto your rolled out pizza dough. Sprinkle cinnamon & sugar (doesn't need to be a specific amount, just enough to coat). Roll up and slice 1" pieces. Place in pan. Bake at 425' for 15 minutes (or until risen & lightly browned).

This will literally take you less than 10 minutes to prep - and with it's homemade appearance, it's a step above the Pillsbury option ;)

Enjoy Cinnamon Lovers :)

The Basement Bar

My parents are the ultimate DIYers.
I grew up around my Mom concocting home decor ideas and my Dad making/painting/installing them.

I've always admired their gusto when it comes to their home,
and by "gusto" I mean they come up with an idea and it's usually begun within days.

My Mom did home daycare for 27 years and their entire basement was dedicated to it.
Now with that part of her life winding down, they decided to create a basement bar.

It's pretty much the ultimate Man Cave where women can still hang out.
and kids too.

They spent so much time scouring finding second hand stuff after scoring the actual bar for a mere $200.

All in all, the whole room came together for about $1000 (or less)
Only new thing was the paint, paneling and the bar stool.

Since they don't have a blog and I do, I took pictures so I could share it with you guys.
Now here's where I have to apologize.
The photos aren't the greatest.
It was a BASEMENT with about 10% natural light.
I did my best ;)

What did it look like before?
Here's a picture my Dad took with his blackberry as the work started.
and one of my hilarious nephew hanging out in the (old) playroom

quite the drastic change!

Seriously, SUCH a great space.
We've already had one party in it and I'm excited for many many more!

Easter Spring Mantle

I'm so glad when I made this banner, that I chose fabrics that would transition from Christmas/Winter to Easter/Spring because the colors became the jumping off point for the whole mantle.
Which is really just a mishmash of previous mantle decor items, with the addition of the amazing "new" antique window, and some dollar store bunnies.

I've said before how much I struggle with designing a space.
The balance between clutter & nothingness is a tricky one for me.
But, it's a creative space that I love to change up with the seasons that usually costs little to no money to do.

$2 Dollarama bunnies

showing off my secrets.
find out about this here.
By doing this method of displaying flowers, you never need to worry about cutting them the right length!

Split peas anyone?

Here's a look-back at previous mantle-ness...

March Sponsor Lineup! Come meet the sidebar!

Another great month for the sidebar here at The Bird's Papaya.

Makes me giddy, I tells ya.

First up this month's

Specifically Random has been on the sidebar since last fall, and I'm so glad because I truly adore this shop and their products.
Specifically Random does custom fit headbands, and you order based on the size of your head (NO one-size-fits-all slippage and pinching)

Last year I got the chance to review a headband and chose the black yoga.
I measured my head and sent my measurements off and had this custom made!
Let me tell you, this headband was my BEST FRIEND earlier this week when I had the flu.
I wear it all the time, but never did I experience it in a form that was oh-so-needed for holding back my hair.
Take a rest, hubby....the headband's got this.
Here's some photos from the review last year. You can go here to read the full review.

Lets meet some new sponsors for March!

Meet Waffles

A few days ago I told you about how we were approved to adopt a rescue pup from a nearby shelter.
On Wednesday we picked him up.
And crazy ensued.

Are you ever really prepared for a puppy?
I read so many articles and asked for so much advice.
Pressure was ON to get it right once we got home.

Day 1 (just the afternoon) - PURE CRAZY and many accidents (luckily he was pee pad trained).
Day 2 - Accident in the crate overnight, but otherwise NO accidents all day. Started catching on that outside is an OK place to "go".
Day 3 - had a couple accidents in the morning, then back to routine, and was on track all day!

Pretty remarkable.
Keeping in mind, he's nearly 4 months old (we think?) he's had lots of time to pick up bad habits.
Luckily, he's a smart boy and we're working hard to give him a successful start.
Even if I'm completely exhausted.

Who cares.
Look at this guy!

Love him.

his ears flap in the wind...can it get ANY better?

Learning about crate training.
aka: "The Waffle House"
He actually loves it and it's been a huge part of his success.

Keep any puppy tips coming!
I love hearing what you all have to tell me.
